My not-so-secret marketing strategy that definitely works.
Do you ever see the same ad over and over on Instagram & eventually give in and click the link?
Lately, it's been the Elise Dharma "One Reel, One Carousel, One Story" ads that have been EVERYWHERE on my social feeds. Every time I see it, I get closer and closer to clicking even though I've told myself, "no more courses or trainings" until I implement everything from the past couple of programs I've invested in.
And, as much as it's cliché to say in marketing spaces, it's true that the more people see your offers, the more likely they are to buy them. I'm sure you've heard, "people need to see your offer at least 7 times before they'll buy it".
This is called "The Marketing Rule of 7" and from my very short google search it seems it was developed in the 1930s as a strategy for marketing movies. They researched that movie-goers would have to see a poster an average of 7 times before they'd go to see the movie.
Of course, I expect that with the amount of marketing we see on tv, in print media (does anyone still read magazines?), on social media etc etc - that number is probably much higher now.
Whatever today's equivalent of 7 times is…. The basic principle is the same, talk about your offers A LOT.
I've been using this strategy to market the yoga studio and it's working. We've had our busiest summer so far which is super exciting. (The new location on main street has helped a lot with visibility!!)
My marketing goal with the studio is to show up EVERYWHERE in our community.
Here's what we've done:
Put a sign up on the building
Put posters up around town
Run $1.38/day ads for the most popular IG content
Emails
Website
Regular social media posts
Print ads
Branded Joyful Yoga Merch (given away as prizes)
On Monday, everyone in class was new so I asked where they heard about the studio and the responses were:
I go to the gym next door & saw the sign
I saw your schedule up in another business in town
I saw one of your posters
I saw you on Facebook
The more you show up, the more you'll sell.
The Marketing Rule of 7 works!! Even if it's closer to 10-20 times these days.
Here are a few things you can do right now to improve your visibility…
Post more often on social media (try one feed post & one story a day minimum)
Post on more than one social media platform (use a scheduling app like metricool to send your posts to multiple platforms at once)
Create a blog on your website & direct Pinterest traffic to it
Create a podcast or look for podcasts to be a guest on
Send more emails
Go to local networking events
Paid advertising
Develop a referral network
We often assume that if sales are not what we expect that the problem is the offer or the messaging. While those are both important to get right, it's very likely that you're just not talking about your offers enough to be top of mind for your ideal client.
Challenge yourself this week to pick a couple of new ways to show up and see what happens! I'd love to hear how it goes!
